Hello all you blogger buddies and readers. This will hopefully be a weekly participation post for Saturday Six Word Story Prompt.
You can read the rules and guidelines HERE.
I’m participating in this week’s prompt of Unconditional Love. Why not join in? Here we go with my entry:
—
“The Golden Rule is not Unconditional.”
Even “Do unto others… ” is motivated by “… what you would have them do to you”. We act, speak and treat others, and rightly so, with the respect, compassion and empathy that we would like to be returned.
It’s traditionally taught that it’s about treating OTHERS, but in an equal way, it’s about the expected or hoped for return FROM others to yourself. Either way, it’s notunconditional. And that may be a good and healthy thing at that.
I’d like to offer an article on Unconditional Love for consideration as to the effects and emotional consequences of both uncritically giving and expecting Unconditional Love.
Another good explanation of why Love must be conditioned on respect and love returned is this blog post from a blogger who “liked” this post right after I posted. Unconditional Love is a potentially dangerous concept in reality. Read HERE.

That’s a very thought-provoking story. Of course, it is not unconditional. Most of us would walk away from people who don’t treat us with the same love, respect, and dedication that we give them (celebrities are, of course, an exception! The only exception, I daresay!). Great take on the prompt, Mike.
