Currently Reading: Sapiens and Omaha

Good morning all you readers out there. In my continuing journey to read my mom and dad’s books, having finished The Road to Gandalfo by Robert Ludlum (pen name Matthew Sheperd) from 1975 , I turn my attention to the follow up book he published in 1992… The Road to Omaha.

But you might also notice that I’m starting to read Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari as well. I mean at the same time. Not sure if I’ll get thru both by the end of February, but that will be my goal.

Good reading all. -mike

Simply Kalam-itous

Shutting down a dishonest use of Kalam to “prove” the Existance of God

The Kalam Cosmological Argument

  • Whatever begins to exist had a cause
  • The Universe began to exist
  • The Universe had a cause.

That’s it. All the Kalam says it that the Universe ‘must’ have had a cause. It says nothing whatever about that cause, whether it was personal, impersonal, accidental or intentional. Nothing.

Personal Disclaimer:

I am neither a scientist or a philosopher. And although I believed, read, studied and even taught the bible for decades as a Christian, I don’t claim to be a Theologian or biblical scholar either.

Bait and Switch

But people try to use this simple syllogism that only speaks to the Beginning of the Universe to “leapfrog” to ‘God therefore exists… prove me wrong’. It’s just not honest.

But to be Honest…

Issues with the premeses and conclusion aside, neither God or a ‘Creation’ of everything there “Now” is from a state of absolute Nothingness “Before” is proven, demonstrated or even implied by The Kalam. And by the flipside, to state or try to imply otherwise is disingenuous at best… and Intentionally Dishonest at worst.

And to do so for the agenda of Apologetics to “smuggle in” a God who you can’t actually demonstrate or prove to actually exist in Reality and ultimately to shift the “Burden of Proof” onto those who would disbelieve you… well, that’s just deceptive, dishonest, arrogant and rude. And you know it, or you should.

And… The response to Craig’s response…

As I said, I’m not a theologian, scientist or a philosopher so I won’t be ‘arguing this out’ with anyone… Especially not With others who aren’t professionally trained theologians, scientists or philosophers… that means YOU amateur internet apologists. Just watch the videos and if you are really trying to understand, seek out others and more information that disagrees with your positions than that which just confirms what you already believe.

Confirmation bias can be a real B -word. It takes courage and integrity to be willing to hear, understand and if necessary accept information when it disagrees with your current model of reality. Be courageous. Be Honest.

Kia’s Friday Haiku Challenge: “Remember”

Welcome to a new Weekly Post/Tag on the Recovering Know It All. Kia’s Friday Haiku Challenge. Sadly, we had no other participants from last week. 😦
The rules are simple:

  • Either choose or take a picture related to the theme or word of the week, or feel free to use the Picture provided on my post
  • Create a HaiKu accordingly, three lines of poetry 5, 7, then 5 syllables in length.
  • Post to your blog, link to mine, and post the link to yours here in the comments below. You’ll have all weekend and up until the following Friday to enter.
  • With the next Friday’s post I’ll be doing a Round-up of participants with their links for readers to follow back to yours to enjoy and perhaps add to the fun with their own.

What fun we’ll have. Why not join in? Here is mine for this week…

Life changed forever

Men, women, husbands and wives

Still September 12th

Eighteen years of war

When can we say “that’s enough”?

Time to bring them home.

We never forget

All our lives changed. We still grieve

But we must Move On.

We remember the victims of 9/11 and mourn the loss of those who have died since then in wars and on missions for our country’s protection and defense.

We remember another 9/11, one in 2012 where our Ambassador and four servicemen were killed trying to defend a position that was being overrun and attacked by militants. Those responsible at the time for sending help did nothing while they fought to save other’s lives.

We remember them too, how they callously yelled at the People’s Representatives “What does it matter?”. At that point, she didn’t care about their deaths. We do. It Matters to US.

Their lives, their sacrifices, their gifts of All… Mattered, and still do to those who remember. We can move on. We can continue. The tragedy of eighteen or seven years ago need not define or limit us. Let it give us strength and resolve to do wha needs to he done. We can Move On. But… Don’t forget.

Well, there is my try for today. Why not give it a try? Do your own post and drop a link or just comment below. Let’s do this!!

New is very old

Void filled with oxymoron

What Was it like Then?

We see only Darkly

If it all came from Nothing..

From whence came Nothing?

New is Relative

“Nothing new under the Sun”

Cosmic Time Baffles

Question for the Crowd’s Consideration and Response

If you do a post on Physics and the implications on Cosmology that seeks to overturn current understanding and call it Science Fiction…

Would it be important in you minds that the person posting have at least some Expertise, Experience or higher Education in the fields?

Would or Wouldn’t it matter?
